HOST YOUR OWN MICRO-NURSERY

We are now taking sign ups for the Spring 2025 growing season.

How does it work?

  1. After signup, we will send you a PayPal invoice (can take up to a few days for a volunteer to send these out!)

  2. February: We’ll reach out via email with instructions on soil delivery and seedling pickup, which will give more details about the below.

  3. Mid March: 500 lbs of top soil will be delivered by a volunteer truck driver to your home and will help you get the soil to the most convenient spot for you. Any help you can give them is greatly appreciated as they are volunteers as well!

  4. Mid March (a few days after soil delivery): Seedling pickup! You’ll pickup the seedlings at Phinney Community Center, along with 100 plastic pots and a tarp to lay under the seedlings so they don’t root into the ground.

  5. Mid March (within 2 days of pickup!): Plant the seedlings into their pots using the provided soil. We’ll have emailed you instructions on how to do this best including a video (youtube)!

  6. Grow grow grow!

  7. October: Seedling deliveries to conservation companies happen around this time! Depending on conservation organization needs as well as plant health, your plants may be picked up by a volunteer truck driver at this time or we may ask you to hold onto them for another season.

Host Requirements:

  • Live in the Greater Seattle/East side of Lake Washington area and have basic gardening skills

  • Will plant all 100 seedlings within 2 days of getting them (takes about 5 hrs.)

  • Will devote 16 square feet (4 feet by 4 feet for example) of garden space that has partial sun and shade.

  • Commit up to 2-1/2 years hosting the Micro-Nursery until the seedlings are big enough, keeping them protected and watered through inevitable dry spells.

  • Pay $100 (sliding scale) to Grow It Forward Restoration to cover the cost of the materials for your Micro-Nursery. (seedlings, 1/4 yard planting soil delivered to you, pots).

    • Sliding Scale Info: We understand if the full $100 may not be in the cards for you at this time but would love to support your quest to help conservation by growing some seedlings! Please add the amount you are comfortable with in the “Comments Or Questions” section of the sign-up form and we’ll be sure to use that number for the PayPal invoice.
